My name is Camryn Dadey and I am an audience journalist at McClatchy/The Sacramento Bee. I graduated from California State University, Sacramento in 2022 with a Bachelor’s degree in political science and journalism.

Previously, I have worked as a California editorial intern at POLITICO and as the news editor for The State Hornet, Sacramento State’s student news organization. I also was president of Sacramento State’s chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.

  • Write daily newsletters for five California McClatchy websites, focusing on politics and local and statewide news. During elections, write weekly election newsletter. Also, write weekly service journalism newsletter and contribute service journalism stories.
  • Write and edit SEO for stories.
  • Deliver weekly and monthly analytics reports to editors on pageview trends, subscriber activity and social media clicks.
  • Use AI to analyze data, generate SEO and identify trends.

California Editorial Intern

  • Report and write content regarding California politics for daily California Playbook newsletter, including topics such as COVID-19 and the 2021 gubernatorial recall election.
  • Gather news from around the state and summarize article’s contents in the newsletter, as well as organizing content based on topic.
  • Work with team to coordinate production and composition of newsletter, as well as coverage of events in the Sacramento area.

  • Manage team of up to 15 staff writers and responsible for editing approximately 10 articles per week, complete with visual elements and graphics.
  • Generate story ideas and plan coverage regarding the 2020 election, COVID-19, crime, student government and higher education, as well as coordinating coverage for breaking news.
  • Coordinate with the editorial board to create content for social networking platforms, including YouTube, Twitter and Instagram in order to keep our student audience informed.
  • Promoted to deputy news editor after 2 months at the State Hornet and promoted to news editor after 6 months.
  • Covered breaking news, student government, education and COVID-19 as staff writer.

  • Lead club in meetings to discuss SPJ ethics, current events and upcoming club events.
  • Plan and moderate events such as guest speaker panels, networking with other journalists and organizations to create these events.
  • Promote upcoming events and create flyers and posts for different platforms. 
  • Previously worked as vice president of communications and was responsible for managing all social media for club, including Instagram, Twitter and WordPress website. 

Sacramento Breeze
Intern editor of high school county newspaper August 2016 – May 2018

  • Worked as student editor in partnership with the Sacramento Bee and Sacramento County Office of Education to produce high school newspaper Sacramento Breeze.
  • Manage a team of writers and communicate with program directors to produce content about campus activities, politics, mental health and sports. 
  • Provide supplemental photography and art as necessary.
